" I affirm the role of Precinct Committees as a vital forum for residents to advise Council on sensitive community issues..." 23 Aug 05 Mayoral Column Sthn Courier
The Precincts are not decision makers. However if the Precinct has strong objection or support for any proposal going before Council for debate and voting by Councillors, the Precinct can nominate a speaker to attend Council on the night and speak for/against the item.
Committee members (Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and any other committee members) are elected yearly (November). These are unpaid volunteer positions.
The benefits of belonging to a Precinct is having a greater say than as a individual in the Community on any Council business.
